Me and Eustina
Eustina Kalaswa was one of the so many girls in my life that had significantly made a mark in my history. She was also my class mate from grade one to grade five at Lubengele Primary School before she was transferred to Kamenza Primary School. She used to stay in Kamenza township, a low cost area, as her parents were well to do in those days. Eustina was a twin and the other twin also attended the same school but they were placed in different classes probably because they were identical twins. They were so much alike in every aspect expect that the young one, Dorothy, was a bit fatter than Eustina. If not careful, you would easily mistaken one for the other. However, as time went on and the longer we associated to them, we found an easy way of distinguishing them. The other girls at school liked the two sisters as they were happy and friendly to everyone and they wanted to be closer to them but each twin had her own favorite friends from their own classes respectively. You would see them when the two sisters meet at break time. Like for example, Eustina had Choole and Catherine , while*""" andwere best friends for the other twin.
The sitting arrangements in our classroom was in such a way that each desk of three pupils was occupied by either two boys with a girl in the middle or two girls with a boy in the middle. Eustina and Choole sat on the first roll on the third desk from the front with
Geshom in the middle. I was placed on the second desk from the front with the other boy and a girl in the middle just in front of Eustina's desk. The girl in our middle was a neighbor of Eustina at home and her name was Mary sakakuka.Mary, who was also Eustina's neighbor at home, in Sable road with their houses separated by the road, was also one of Eustina's best friends. Mary was intelligent in in class while Eustina and Choole were just fair not bad nor good. In many cases, the two girls would consult her for help in their home work.
The day "Saturday" was set for all sports for all Primary Schools in the Copperbelt and in Chililabombwe, one school would be at home to host the other school in a district sports competition. The following week, the same schools will meet in the other school's venue according to the schedule.
Our sports master would make sure each pupil participated in any game or if not, those that did not have a sport should come to watch and give support to the teams of the School by cheering failure to which punishment would be imposed on the absentee.
I liked Saturdays as I got more opportunities to mingle with girls.
